WAR - ten days played

Saturday, October 11th, 2008

I now have been playing WAR for about ten days. And I have to admit that I still love it. Apart from WoW I played no other MMORPG longer than a couple of days. But in WAR I have now already a lvl 21 character and a guild, so I suppose I will stay here for a longer time. At the moment I’m already thinking if I should buy the Wrath of the Licheking when it is published in November as I can only play one game at a time

Yes, there are bugs in the game and sometimes it crashes. And of course I have to play it on Windows and the graphic-chip in my notebook is not the best so it sometimes laggs like hell. But I thought I would never say that I really like PvP - I hated it in WoW but in WAR its just great. So if you are interested and haven’t played it yet, I reccommend to give it a try. And if you join a RP-server you should also find some roleplayers that are willing to play there role good.

Why the Order isn’t sexy…

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

Is it just me? Or are there really more Destruction-players than Order-Players around? Okay I only know two servers so far but I have the feeling that the bad guys are attracting players more than the good guys. So I thought what could be the reason for that. Basically both factions are quite balanced, so no side has an edge over the other. You have tanks, damage dealers and healers on both sides with cool special abilities. Yet the Destruction is far more popular than the Order. And even I am playing Destruction… The bad side of the medal is the fact that the RvR-fights are sometimes really boring as there are a group of bad guys around but no opponents to fight.

WAR & WFRP: changes in the maps of the Old World

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

I realized when playing WAR that the geography of the game-world is a more than simplified version of the Old World as we know it. The Realm vs. Realm character of the game made it necessary that each junk of the map is divided by two oposing fractions. So for instance you have Empire vs. Chaos. The starting area for the Empire is Nordland and for Chaos its Norsca. So far, so good. But the strange thing is that there is now a land bridge between Nordland and Norsca - which is totally rubbish IMO. The same is with Ostland (the next area) which  now borders with the Trollcountry (!). You can find more information about the game-zones at the WAR-wiki. Though it is clear to me that for an online game there have to made sacrifices just for the sake of gameplay I don’t know what to think of the new maps. What worries me is the fact that a lot of new people will be attracted to the Warhammer World through the game and some of them might be PnP-roleplayers - but the idea of the game and the world will be characterized by their experience from the game… and how would Games Workshop react? Will they again change the shape of the world? They did it in the past - just compare maps from WFRP 1st edition to that in 2nd edition - Albion once was a group of isles, now its a single one, the Empire shrinked in size and so on… What do you think?

Warhammer Age of Reckoning

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

Mythic Entertainment recently released the MMORPG Warhammer: Age of Reckoning (WAR), the online roleplaying game placed in Games Workshops world of Warhammer.  I thought long if I should give it a try and I nearly resisted two weeks after its initial release. But finally I got me a copy of Warhammer: Age of Reckoning yesterday. I will give you my first impressions of the game here. (more…)
